Rang De basanti

I really liked the songs of this movie. Luka Chupi, Rubaroo and the title track are too good. For last few days I am hooked to them.

Life is beautiful

Watch this movie. One of my all time favorites. I used to watch it whenever I was down.

Five Point Someone

I was asked to read this book by many friends. Some saw Alok in me( minus tears of course) and some even saw Ryan in me ( minus my parents aren't that rich.). But nobody saw Hari in me because I played that part back in school minus the girl.
Then I was also requested to write a review b'coz I suppose, my image was of ultimate bad boy in college girl's hostel ( as I have been told). I still do not know why? ( As if I care!)

Well to start with it highly overrated. It's a good book but no classic or refreshing like DCH as said by Financial Express. I am sure many of you will not agree. Let me explain. Its more like ordinary Hindi movie script. Check the striking similarities.

1)Ryan: Bad boy from rich family like any ordinary Hindi movie. He hates his parents since they kept him in hostel since his school days. Another myth. All habits like Grass, Vodka, Bunking classes, skipping exams are his creation. He is smart in practical application of fundas.

2)Alok: From a poor family, round shaped, sissy boy who breaks in tears. Breaks from group due to poor GPA and comes back even though his GPA hasn't recovered.

3)Venkat: Studious, Refuses to budge even when Alok has to take his father to hospital.

4)Hari: Cool dude, does not take sides and is able to held group together. Tries to be Ryan. For failing in vivas has a excuse of his father's beating. Plus( Big one) he has a girl even though he looks ordinary.

Fultu Hindi Movie. Rich kid has to be bad. He hate studies and yet he studied so hard to get in IIT. Cool! In a group once a member has introduced a habit, others pick up and never all the habits are originated by one man. So One person is total black and the other two are bhola bhala ppl stuck with him. Nope! Everyone has his share of original ideas. May be only Ryan's would have been good and accepted, but everyone has ideas and mentions it in group.

One guy from poor family sees that all his problems will be solved by joining IIT and screws up after that. Unbelievable! His thoughts are washed out by mere friend's gyan. Cool! Again when he gets wake up call, he comes back. Venkat is studious and has to be a mugger. See he studies so much and gets 10, we do not do much but still manage 5. Nothing gr8, right?

seniors fled the scene of ragging due to Ryan's machoism. Please!

Hari, you are big one. A girl says sorry and then says she will see you again that too when u r not too handsome. Man, tell us either we are stupid enough to agree with that or you are. I cannot believe that. Do you leave in India?

The girl is ok meeting you outside even though the ice-cream parlor owner knows her daddy. Girls won't meet u miles close to area where somebody knows them if they are afraid of their family. As always Neha's father is a cruel bastard. She has a tragedy to cry with. Isn't that what happens in all Hindi movies?

You screw that big time and still forgiveness is divine and hence Cherian allows you to show your sem as research absence. To do that, he does not need to read ur project again and pass you on merit. He has to read the letter a day before ur score and then he cries for his son. Regrets screwing up his son's life and u get a waiver. The Villain has to have a heart change since he is Girl's father. Again typical hindi movie.

If this is reality, our complain of realastic cinema is not valid. It is very close to realism.

Having criticized, I would still maintain the book is good read but not classic. The subject is close to young ppl. Hence it scores high in market.

All above pts look marketing stuff ingrained so that book is accepted in market and parents still think their son is good unless some rich brat messes with his life.

I liked the end of book b'coz it was reality. I liked hari's questions and thoughts with himself b'coz they look real.

If you hope to read some of interesting stuff that happened in my college/school life , keep watching this space. I may rewrite some of them.(Oh! I know what u want. My bhoot of love-shav & all).

Till then bye.

An old page from My diary: 13 Jan '01

Today is my dear friend Manoj's b'day. Below is extract from my diary abt coincidence in our life.

Dear Diary,

Sometime coincidence can be too dramatic. Remember I told in '01 on 7th of Jan that Manoj will get a job on 11 Jan'01. Oh! Of course u do, that was just after I had told him the same. Well, u also know that though his interview was 11, he got a job on 13.

Two year later, today, I got my first job and days before he had told me that I am gonna get my job soon. In fact, when I was disappointed during first sem b'coz of no job at hand, he told me u will get one on the same day.

Now that's what I call sixth sense.

Google & Tsunami Survey

I just couldn't disagree with Title of this article @rediff. Google is on top and one of the reason is simplicity. That is what sells among common people whatever we technocrats say.

Then check this survey news @rediff. The fact is simple, the great Indian mindset is Thoda hai thode ki zaroorat hai. Same is reflected in this survey's answers in India. It's just that the world swings around opinion, Making the results look interesting. :-))

Ganguly: Leave him alone

Check comments by Wadekar on Ganguly's sacking on rediff He talks about unfair world, compares it with his exit. Then derives a warning for Sachin. Well I could take all this. But the last one was too much. He says Selectors have something against all left handed Captains. ha! ha! Logic?
Wadekar retired in 70-80, selectors then and now are separate people. So you cannot compare his exit and Ganguly's exit. Ganguly has not performed for long. Everybody back then would have asked for his blood as a batsman, he played through those years b'coz he was a good captain. Today we do not need that quality, then he has to play for his first reason. He was in team as a batsman and he needs to retain that spot on merit. All those fighting for him are forgetting the basic Gangulism. Dada was good captain on merit. He is a fighter and will come back roaring on his own terms. We need not show sympathy to him. That will only take the real gangulism out of him. He needs all situations to be adverse for his comeback. That's the Ganguly you want to see and not the one who holds his place b'coz of his past dids. This is same funny logic. When you are experienced you are supposed to perform and the chances of getting away with a blunder are less. When you are young, inexperienced that's Ok, you are learning. Isn't that how it works in all other professions? We are trying to get professionalism in our team since we pay them so much.

or the betterment of Indian cricket and Ganguly, we should not create controversies where they are none. As much as I like the Ganguly, I respect the plans of selectors. Give them some time and you will have good team for future.

For the sake of Ganguly, leave him alone. It's his fight and he has to fight it alone. By showing sympathy and by fighting, protesting for him you are trying to tame the tiger. As if he cannot fight for the spot in team on merit.

As Boycott once said to Sachin from commentary box during the famous Indo-Ausi series down under "Form is temporary, Class is permanent." Simple put, Ganguly is not in form, its not the same ganguly when you compare him with his past. We want Ganguly whose comparison is with his own past. Ganguly will show his class by coming back to team but for that we need to leave him alone.

We Gonna Rock!!

If the punch line for DC trip was "It's all about spending time together", then for Florida trip during Thanksgiving Break was "We gonna Rock". We went to Miami, Key West, Orlando. We really rocked in Key West and Orlando. Key West was for Water Sports including Parasailing while Orlando was all abt Island of adventures. We really had a blast. It was my first experience with roller coaster. Riding them was fun. Same goes with Water sports in Key West. US-1 to Key West from Fort Lauradale was an eye candy. Miami was a bit off day since we were stressed out for first 2 days. South beach was cool. I liked the evening spent in Key West most.

Russell Peters Stand-up Comedy

Last month, 10 Nov to be precise, I obeyed my sister's orders. She had asked me not to come back till I have seen few cultural events, plays, acts in US. So having seen the pirated copy of his act, I decided to experience the act first hand. Did I like it? Yeah! It was my first experience of stand up comedy and I liked it. The only thing which I could compare with it for Indian folks was Hasya Kavi Samelan in India. The other 2 guys also did their bit and they were good at it. The humor was racial and sarcasm. The pronunciation in English of different ethnic groups was the central theme. Add to it some of the funny customs and names of people and you have Russell Peters Stand-up Comedy show.

Would love to see these type of shows in India. Similarly would like to see street plays out here.

Blue Man Show

Shows like these make hard for me to leave Boston. This show, combination of light, music and act is a great treat to watch. Blue man group uses drums, PVC pipes, airpoles in innovative ways to create their own rock concert music. I still get gigs when I recollect their witty actions. The group was initially formed by 3 friends in NYC. Today, it is 60 member group. Their shows in Chicago, LA, Boston, NYC are must for all those who like humor. I do not know anything that matches this, in India.

I also liked the style of autograph as shown on the pic above. :-)
